Jackie Hanson

Exploring the world is exciting, whether I find myself somewhere conventionally beautiful or mundane. The experience of being in a place drives my art. I firmly believe the drive to create is a lot like the urge to be outdoors. Both are a primal feeling of anticipation quieted only by the act of doing. I merge these two feelings by recreating my inner experience I get from a place in my paintings. When I render the light and texture that excited me, that feeling of being in the world is recaptured. The mediums of pastel and watercolor allow me to build up the world in layers until I feel the excitement again, and then I know my work is ready. I show the world just as I saw it and pass my emotion onto the viewer.
